Pedal for the Medal

A change from the science – this week I travel to Pontevedra (Spain) to compete in the World Triathlon Championships!

It’s been a long road of strange coincidence that has led to this – long story short, I qualified at the end of 2022 to compete on Team USA following my three years racing in Boston with Wheelworks Multisport. I’ll be competing in the 30-34 Age Group for the Standard Aquabike division – essentially, a triathlon minus the run (1500m swim, 40km bike). I’m very excited to be racing alongside a teammate who is the defending champion in this event, so all the pressure is on them!

It’s been a long year of training and pushing towards this event, many early hours in the gym/pool, and frankly an inordinate volume of rice and chicken…with nearly 6,000km training kilometers put in since the end of January, including a week-long Alp expedition from Geneva to Nice and a Tour de France stage recreation at L’Etape Switzerland, I’m eager now to put all 261hrs of training (https://www.strava.com/athletes/3034723 ) over the last 8 months into the ~1hr40 of the event

I’ll update this post when I’m back with a summary of the event, but if you are interested in following the event:
